Public Safety Training

Intro to Verbal Techniques:
This course that provides techniques and suggestions of intervention when encountering someone with a mental illness, as well as techniques on establishing rapport with any person an officer encounters. It provides details on how to ask questions in a way to help gather information on the person, and how to explain things in laymen’s terms.

Advanced Verbal Techniques:
This course that officers specific and mental illness-dependent verbal techniques.


Basic Strategies for De-escalation:
This course includes basic verbal and body language techniques officers can use to de-escalate a person who is in crisis, so they are then able to get the information needed to perform their task.


Communication and De-escalation:
This course details basic communication skills to use while on the job, including ways to de-escalate a crisis.


Public Safety Family Survival Tactics:
This course is provided to law enforcement officers and their spouse/partners.  It covers a variety of topics including: police family dynamics, critical incident stress, mental & physical wellness, and resiliency.


Learning in High Stress Environments:
This class discusses ways to learn and retain information while in a high-stress environment.


Morale and Resiliency:
A course reviewing ways to improve Department morale and increase resiliency and stress management.


Officer Involved Shootings:
Training provided in the aftermath of an officer-involved shooting that details possible reactions and ways to mitigate trauma.


Public Speaking:
A course teaching techniques to improve public speaking.


Special Populations:
A course detailing techniques to use while working with populations including the elderly, mentally ill, and developmentally disabled.


Stages of an Escalating Crisis:
This is a course that details the various stages of crisis, so that officers can identify the stage, which then informs the intervention or de-escalation technique.


Stress and Trauma:
A course on the stressors of working in public safety, techniques for stress management, identifying trauma reactions, and ways to cope.


Stress and Wellness:
A course covering stress management and basic wellness.


Suicide and Suicide by Cop:
This is a course that outlines the State laws regarding danger to self and danger to others, as well as how ask a person in crisis ab out suicide.  This class also includes information on how to work with a person in a suicide by cop situation and how to de-escalate a person in crisis.


Supervisor Effectiveness:
A course that focuses on the stressors specific to those in supervisory positions.


Understanding Mental Health:
This is a course that provides an overview of various mental health diagnoses and symptoms. The purpose of this course is to help individuals recognized and understand various mental health disorders.


Veterans Considerations:
This is a course that details some of the values that veterans are taught, specific questions to ask to gain rapport with a veteran, and other veteran-specific issues such as trauma and access to firearms.




Violence Prevention Training

Active Shooter Drill Tabletop Exercises:
Staff offers consultation services on developing a scenario based training conforming to an organization's specific factors.  the training includes facilitating the scenarios and debriefing the active shooter exercise with agencies. The purpose of this training is to assist an agency in determining their current level of preparedness while also developing action steps to take based on lessons learned.

Detection, Prevention, and Mitigation of Vicarious Trauma Symptoms:

This training is offered to employees who are tasked with directly or indirectly working with victims of traumatic incidents.  Participants are provided information on trauma symptoms and management strategies.

Identifying and Diffusing Angry Behavior in the Workplace:
This training covers coding behavior, recognizing and disrupting concerning behaviors, and strategies for de-escalating agitated and distraught individuals.  

Resiliency in the Workplace:
This training covers stress management and is offered to companies interested in increasing morale and/or assisting employees during times of high stress.

Workplace Violence Prevention:
This training provides participants with information related to the detection, disruption, and risk assessment of potentially violent individuals.  Basic safety considerations for preventing a violent incident are discussed.
